Picking what you wear for your personal branding shoot is critical to how your website and social media will look. You have to be really strategic about it because the colours of your clothing will form the colour aesthetic for your brand.

My first advice would be to create an ‘Inspiration Board’ on Pinterest where you can collect clear ideas of how you want your dream brand and website will look like. For this board you’ll want to pin images of patterns, logos, homeware, plants, flowers, lifestyle shots – basically, anything that you feel is ‘you’ and would represent your brand. Once you’ve collated all of your ideal brand images you can take a step back and see what colours seem to be prominent.

Explore your wardrobe and see if anything is popping out that matches the colours and theme of your brand vision board. Which items do you feel amazing in? Do you have outfits you’d wear to meet your clients?
Don’t forget to think about the services you offer to make sure your outfits reflect the type of personality of our brand. Are you a corporate type, yogi type, creative type. Whatever the style of your brand, dress accordingly.
A few helpful tips;
Wear solid colours – prints like florals can sometimes be distracting in photographs
Wear clothes that fit well. There’s nothing worse than ill-fitting clothing to ruin your professional image.
Wear heels. Heels can leave you feeling a little sore, but the style they add to your outfit is well worth it!
Depending on the length of your photoshoot you may like to plan for multiple outfits. I aim to provide my clients with images that they’re able to use for roughly 3 months – 1 year of promotion. Having multiple outfits increases the longevity of the images.

You know your outfits will communicate to your audience who you are, what you stand for and your brand’s message but it can be so daunting and stressful choosing the right wardrobe. I get it!
If you’ve pulled every single item of your wardrobe out unto your bed and can’t make sense of it all or you’re lacking clothes in the right colours or you’re struggling to mix and to match to create unique outfits in which you will feel and look absolutely fabulous then I would strongly recommend investing in the help of a professional Stylist and Personal Shopper.
A Stylist will help you pick items that will flatter your shape and that would suit your colour palette all the while keeping in mind the objective of representing your brand.

This is where we can increase the longevity of our photos even further. The two outfits you previously planned can now turn into three to five depending on the right accessories. With the right accessories, you can completely change the look of your outfit and make it appear as if your images were taken on different days and even throughout the year.

Finally, be yourself. Wear what feels right for you. All of the above guidance is just that: guidance. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to what to wear. You know your brand and business best. Ultimately, no one can decide what’s better to wear than you can.
